چکیده
Airborne fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution is known to have adverse effects on human health, and owing their carcinogenic mutagenic nature, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are of particular concern. This study investigated the effect ultraviolet (UV)-induced photocatalysis degradation PAHs in PM2.5, employing titanium dioxide (TiO2)-supporting quartz fibre filters. A TiO2 layer was formed filters, airborne PM2.5 collected using an air sample at a flow rate 500 L/min for 24 h. The samples were subsequently irradiated with rays 1.1 mW/cm2. amounts nine targeted (phenanthrene, PHE; anthracene, ANT; pyrene, PYR; benzo[a]anthracene, BaA; chrysene, CHR; benzo[b]fluoranthene, BbF; benzo[k]fluoranthene, BkF; benzo[a]pyrene, BaP; benzo[g,h,i]perylene, BgP) gradually decreased during treatment, half-lives ranging from 18 h (PHE) 3 (BaP), significantly greater reduction found comparison control (non-TiO2 coated) However, rates much faster when direct contact layer. As mixture various kinds solids, co-existing components can be rate-determining factor UV-induced PAHs. demonstrated by remarkable increase following removal salts water treatment.

Anaerobic degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are among the most important contaminants of groundwater. The 2- and 3-ring PAHs are of particular concern because they are water soluble in the 1-200 mug/l range and are transported with the groundwater over significant distances. Anaerobic degradation of PAH has been demonstrated in several microcosm studies with nitrate, ferric iron, or sulfate as elec...
متن کاملDetection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons using quartz crystal microbalances.
A chemically coated piezoelectric sensor has been developed for the determination of PAHs in the liquid phase. An organic monolayer attached to the surface of a gold electrode of a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) via a covalent thiol-gold link complete with an ionically bound recognition element has been produced. This study has employed the PAH derivative 9-anthracene carboxylic acid which, ...
متن کاملParticulate Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Urban Air of Tehran
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are ubiquitous in the urban atmosphere and one of the most atmospheric pollutants to be identified as suspected carcinogens .The objective of this study was to compare particulate PAH profiles from several sites across Tehran. Atmospheric concentrations of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Tehran were evaluated to study particulate PAH profiles in different si...
متن کاملPnm-20: The Impact of Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Particulate Matter on Spontaneous Abortion
Background: Epidemiological evidence suggests that fine particulate air pollution, particularly particles less than 10 microns in diameter (PM10) exposure adversely affects pregnancy outcomes and usually aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene bound to fine particles. We evaluated the impacts of PM10 and benzene on spontaneous abortion of first trimester of pregnancy in Tehran. Materials and Meth...
متن کاملSource Identification of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Urban Particulate Matter of Tangshan, China
The presence of particle-associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was investigated in mixed residential/light industrial, industrial and commercial zones in summer 2000 and winter 2001 in Tangshan, China. Thirteen PAHs were measured with the total average concentrations (ng/m) of PAHs ranged from 26.5 to 313.6 in summer and from 142.4 to 672.4 in winter. The average concentrations of ...
